The main section includes most of the Photographs I collected over the past fifty-two years. These include the second part of the Catalogue which is being offered in its entirety. These are the Harry J. Allyn photographs of the Spokane Tribe made in 1899. These images are offered as a group and will not be divided.

The third section can be viewed and considered upon request. This is the entirety of The Gary Metz Archive consisting of approximately 700 images made and mostly printed by Gary during his lifetime.  A number of them are signed. Most are not. Shortly before Gary’s death he asked me to be the Executor of his Photographic Estate. In the years that have passed I have set up a Fellowship Program University of Arizona through the Creative Center for Photography to award $2500 Fellowships every few years. All sales of prints from the Archive are deposited into The Gary Metz Fellowship Fund at the Rhode Island Foundation in Providence RI. Whenever the returns from the sale of photographs earn $2500 a Fellowship is offered. A 2nd fellowship will be offered this year. The only withdrawals from the accrual of sales besides the Fellowship are for minor out of pocket expenses and the cost to insure the archive.

As you go through the first part of the catalogue you will happen on some Gary Metz images in my own collection. These images were given to me in exchange for organizing, overseeing, and promoting the archive. There are also a number of images in my collection that attribute their Provenance to “Gift from Artist…”  Some of these images came into my collection as part of the stipulation I set when I created and ran The Silver Bullet Gallery, in Providence, RI. Photographers who exhibited were asked to exchange two photographs from their exhibition in return for the opportunity to have an exhibition. One photo came to me and the other went to the owner of Color Lab, a cutting edge film processing company in Providence with great wall space for exhibiting.

Special consideration will be given to those interested in acquiring section one (Personal) and two (Harry J. Allyn) in their entirety rather than piecemeal purchases. The Metz Archive if purchased in its entirety will also be given special consideration.
